Carl joins up with the unique rubber fetish performance artist SAEBORG for a set that will almost certainly astound. Department H will takes place every month in the historic Tokyo Kinema, a large ballroom from the Showa era in the heart of Tokyo’s Shitamachi (downtown). The doors open at midnight (technically June 5th) and the event proceeds until dawn. Carl’s set with SAEBORG will take place at 1:45 AM. Greetings! I hope this finds you well. This month our Noozletter breaks yet another record. Dammit, I knew those 78rpm shellac recordings were too damn delicate to frisbee. No, not that kind of record – THIS kind of record.: We’re publishing on time twice in the past six months. We sure must have a lot of time on our hands.

Actually to the contrary, things have been quite busy in our Tokyo headquarters. Not only have we been hard at work planning for our upcoming spring concerts (with details below) but also working on a commission for a new multi-channel work for the BEAST system in Birmingham UK (April), concerts in France (June) and the launch of a new project with Germany based artist/composer Miki Yui (“Realistic Monk”) that is planning to tour in Europe this September. Let’s not let the prospects of a Donald Trump presidency or the complete obliteration of bluefish tuna darken our spirits. Remember, “It will all be OK once the music starts to play.” And in this case, the music – my music – will start to play right away in January, and with plans for events in almost every month of the year. You will certainly be glad you subscribed to this noozletter, receiving those sweet sweet up to the minute announcements about concerts, talks, reviews, publications and all things Carl, delivered fresh to your inbox..

Normally this (ostensibly) monthly missive would contain detailed announcements only for the month within which it is published. However, as several of next month’s events happen rather early on, and we have been known to (ahem) sometimes be a few days late in publication, I’m going to list up February events as well, even if some of the details have not yet been firmly fixed. The Great International Audio Streaming Orchestra” uses a bidirectional multiplex platform to perform and mix different audio sources via streaming. Carl returns to Madame Claude, the excellent upside down bar located in a former brothel in Berlin Kreuzberg. The place hosts concerts, DJs or events every night from 7pm till late. Carl will headline their fun “Jeudi Foster” series which takes place, that’s right, every Thursday. Also on the bill will be IDO BUKELMAN, active in the Israeli “new music” scene for many interesting collaborations in the fields of ‘avant-garde’, improvised music, and free jazz. Carl performs at Elektro-Müller in an event sponsored by the Julia Stoschek Collection in collaboration with the Open Source Festival. Carl will be joined for the evening by Miki Yui, an artist whose work encompasses music, installation, drawing, video and text. This event featuring solos and duos, as well as special video imagery “Don’t Flatten” by Yuichi Ito. Because of the space limitations, attendance is strictly limited to 50 people. Carl returns to Mills College after a 20 year absence to perform as part of the Songlines series, an interactive event where audience members can question and discuss with the artists. get up close and personal in the Mills Ensemble Room. He’ll talk about his early roots studying with Morton Subotnick and James Tenney, give a rundown of more recent activities, discuss musical life living in Tokyo, and present some recent works from his “Acid Minsoku” series.
